Abstract

On f. lxxvi v of a patristic florilegium, in preparation, in a hand we have come to recognise as Br. Photios's, the following marginal note appears in minium-and-cinnabar: an aside both characteristic of the working scriptorium and useful for our purposes. a second hand has annotated the annotation; we forgo discussing this

Context

Compare the parallel attestations at f. lxii v (Vat. gr. 1208), where a similar formula appears with the substitution of exemplar for archetypum. The shared structure suggests a wider workshop tradition, or possibly a shared sense of grievance.

Paleographic Note

The minim spacing is wider than the scribe's usual practice, suggesting either a second hand returning to the line or, more probably, an interruption mid-line. The sigma terminal preserves the customary form.
